The PADI First Emergency Response Course trains the participants in basic emergency care. First Aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) are good skills for everybody that is involved in adventure sports. You might need these skills even in your daily life.

The PADI Emergency First Response Course is recommended for those who wish to continue their diving education. You need to have your EFR certificate to make the PADI Rescue Diver Course, the PADI Divemaster Course and the PADI Instructor Course.

No minimum age or other pre- requisites are required to follow the EFR Course.

In the PADI EFR Course, you will work closely with your instructor and he will teach you the following lifesaving skills:

  • BLS or Basic Life Support, CPR and  rescue breathing at the layperson level.
  • Prevention and care in situations where you have to deal with patients that are in shock, who aren’t breathing, that have no heartbeat, that may have spinal injury or who may have serious bleeding injuries.
  • Performing CPR and monitoring the patient until medical services arrive.
  • Secondary Care or First Aid. You will learn how to provide first aid to ease the pain and to reduce the risk of further harm until medical services arrive. You will also practice bandaging and splinting.
  • Care for children and infants. This part of the course allows you to practice and apply emergency care skills specific for children and infants with medical emergencies.
  • CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Here you will focus on the CPR training and practice on how to use the AED.
  • First Aid at work. EFR is not only useful in dealing with emergency situation in adventure sports but also at your workplace it can become a valuable asset.

The PADI EFR Course is a one day training program involving knowledge development sessions using manuals, videos, reference cards and demonstrations as well as practice sessions.

Completing the EFR Course will enable you to do the following:

  • Risk evaluation and using barriers.
  • Injury assessment.
  • Rescue breathing and CPR.
  • Bleeding management.
  • Responding to choking victims.
  • Shock management.
  • Bandaging and applying splints.

The PADI First Emergency Response certificate is valid for 24 months from completion of the course. You need to refresh your CPR and First Aid skills every 24 months. You will focus in the key skills and it will allow you to stay up to date and ready to lend a hand when needed.

Following the PADI First Emergency Response Course will teach you as described above serious medical response skills and you will gain confidence that you are prepared to help in any emergency situation.
